It has been a while since I posted about a skin care product, and although there are lots that I am obsessed with, this particular brand I think deserves a little more attention, and that is The Ordinary.
Ok so what is The Ordinary? Basically (my interpretation) is that it is a skin care company that has taken the basic ingredients of skin care and give them simple packaging and sell them at next to nothing prices. This range does require a little bit of research to ensure you are getting the right products for your skin type. Skin care is something I am passionate about, especially as at 29 I am dealing with breakouts and anti-ageing which is just annoying. It may take some trial and error to find the products from this range that my skin responds to really well, but as I mentioned this range is incredibly affordable so I isn’t that hard to buy into and try a lot of different products.
The range is large, almost overwhelming, so for my first (and so far only, but there will be more) order I went with four products. I shopped on ASOS but this brand is available on a few more sites, click here.
To be honest when I ordered this product I didn’t have a notion of what it was but lately I have been hearing that Vitamin C is something that should be in our skin care routine so I thought I would try it out.
Apparently this is great for brightening your skin and is also an antioxidant that helps with anti-ageing.
It comes in a little squeeze tube and it a serum that has a bit of grit to it. It feels a little heavy and greasy on the skin and takes a few minutes to absorb. It also comes with a tingling sensation and can make my skin a little pinkish. I like this product and I love the instant feeling of something working that comes with the tingle. This product is not for everyone, and to be honest I won’t be rushing to reorder the product again when I run out. It is nice, but I have not noticed a major change to my skin.
So I have heard a lot about retinol, but I had never heard of a retinoid. Retinol’s are great for anti-ageing but can irritate the skin, the retinoid offers the same anti-ageing properties but with less of the irritation. Win/ win right?!
So this product was the one I had the strongest reaction to. This is a strong product and you have to slowly introduce it to your skin. Use it once or twice for the first week and slowly increase it otherwise you will have an irritated reaction. Second thing to note is that if you are like me, and you have oily skin that is prone to breakouts that you will love/ hate this product. This serum will attack your spots but the process is that it brings on a big breakout known as a purge. Within the initial couple of days I had a lot of little spots pop up all around my chin and some on my cheeks. After about three weeks my skin was in so much better condition, but it hasn’t totally stopped my breakouts, especially when I am hormonal. The final thing to know of this product is that it makes your skin especially sensitive to the sun. Only put it on at night and make sure you wear a high SPF the next day.
This is already a ride or die for me. I like the idea that it is fighting my signs of ageing, which are not too prominent just yet, but I really like how it can attack my clogged pores and quicken the life cycle of a standard spot.
The packaging of this product is a glass bottle with a dropper.
Hyaluronic acid is one of my favourite skin care ingredients. Acid sounds harsh but this is actually a naturally occurring acid that keeps moisture in your eyes and joints. So what this does for your skin is keep it hydrated and when it thinks your skin needs more hydration it will even pull moisture from the air.
What The Ordinary claim is that they use three forms of Hyaluronic Acid to fully penetrate the skin and hydrate on multiple levels. They claim that some other Hyaluronic Acid products only use larger molecules that do not penetrate the skin and they can actually draw moisture from the lower layers of the skin to give the surface layer a softer feel.
I am flying through this product, it is nearly empty and I will 100% be ordering again.
The packaging is a glass bottle with a dropper.
I know some people don’t like silicon primers, I actually do. What I really like about this product is what it does:
- It gives a slightly matte base, as someone who has oily T zones this is exactly what I want and need.
- It is hydrating which is obviously amazing before I layer on makeup.
- It has blurring technology which I want from all my products because I do want to disguise my imperfections.
- It does what it says on the tin and makeup adheres longer.
This a really light weight product and feels great on the skin. Once again it comes in a squeeze tube which makes it really easy to use.
