So Summer is pretty much done which is slightly annoying, however I LOVE winter fashion so I am not too upset about the changing weather. I got a little excited about the days being cooler and I am currently wearing faux leather trousers which I totally regret… SWEATING!!!!
Anyway I am taking a look back at August and this is my favourite type of post to write as I get to take stroll down memory lane and enjoy the highlights of the previous month, which I don’t always appreciate as much as I should in the moment.
August is always a fun month as it is my birthday along with my mum’s and my sisters, so if there’s nothing else happening there is always plenty of cake, so no complaints here!
So let’s get started….
Start the month as you mean to go on, enjoying a glass of Rosé! This photo was taken by the gorgeous Doireann from Blog Beauties while we enjoyed a day of brunch and wine in sunny Dublin. Is there a better way to spend a day?
I got excited about the changing seasons early in August when this amazing dark green nail polish landed on my desk. I love dark nails and I am always looking for rich alternative from simple black. This shade is called Fur Green from YSL and can be purchased here.
Always in Black and White. I had a funny day of workshops and casual meetings so I went a little fancy on the top with my peplum Zara blouse and kept it casual in my Nike Cortez as I had to run around town getting from A to B.
Cheers! Conor and I had a date day and headed to the Coors Light Ice Cave experience in town. It was a really fun pop up bar specialising in Coors Light drinks and cocktails and we got out of the heat and enjoyed the -4degree Ice Bar. (I think that was the temperature). We were decked out in fleece ponchos so we didn’t totally freeze but it was really fun to enjoy something a little different.
Welcome to http://www.ginakiely.com! For the past 3 years my blog has been Classic & Wilde and last month I decided it was time for change. There were two reasons for this: 1) I had run out of memory and needed to make the change from .wordoress.com to a simple .com. 2) When I started this blog I had a very specific idea for it, and over 3 years that idea has gone out the window. My blog covers most aspects of my life and is more of an online diary than a style website. 3) The name didn’t have the same meaning to me anymore. I decided to stick with my name, it has been 29 years and I’m not sick of it yet so hopefully I won’t want to change it again!
Sad selfie. I don’t know why I look so sad here but my liner looks pretty good ( I am CRAP at liquid liner) so I had to instagram this shit! I also wore my hair straight which looks fine in the photo but I instantly regretted it once I left the house. I just can’t pull off straight hair for some really annoying reason!
REPEAL! I don’t usually go political on my website but I had to share my chic jumper that is creating awareness around the 8th amendment in Ireland. The 8th amendment prevents women in Ireland from accessing safe and legal abortions, and we are one of two countries in the EU where abortions are illegal. This topic is not a black and white situation and the arguments can bring up a lot of grey areas, however women in Ireland are seeking abortions everyday and ignoring the problem will not resolve anything. If you would like to learn more, or buy a jumper, click here!
You may have noticed my red bandana making its way into a couple of snaps, well I am simply trying to keep up with the trend setter cat Mr Smoky! I found this in Dealz ages ago and he actually loves wearing it, I think he feels extra pretty when I put it on.
What’s in my bag?! I tend to forget about my super fab Vivienne Westwood flap bag, which is crazy because I always get a load of compliments when I wear it. I used it to lug around my gorgeous printed Primark notebook and YSL lipstick along when I wore it with my Ray Ban aviators. I was also wearing clothes btw.. not just the bag and sunnies.
I got to spend a gorgeous evening in the new Benefit Boutique on Fleet Street last month and enjoyed pink champagne and got to play with some of my favourite makeup. The very generous team at Benefit did not send us away empty-handed and I am now the very proud owner of the cheekathon palette. You can read my full review here and see why I am so obsessed (and how your basically making money when you buy it;) )
Anyone who knows me knows that I have become skin care obsessed in my old age (just turned 29!). I was very kindly gifted the Vitamin E range from The Body Shop and it totally rocks! You can read my full review here, but the short version is that it protects from UVA/UVB/ Pollution and keeps your skin super hydrated!
DROPPING HINTS!!! Just kidding 😉 One of my very fun clients is ESL Jewellers on Chatham Street and every now and again I have the envious job of playing with stunning diamond rings and gorgeous jewels. One of the really cool aspects of this jewellers is the fact they also manufacture pieces so customers can have one of a kind rings created in their studio.
I did not get a holiday this year but even if I did I would just get a little red, go slightly more beige and go right back to being blue. Thank goodness there are so many good fake tan options. I used Tantastic for the first time last month and I love it! Read my full review here.
Lipstick problems. For someone who doesn’t really like pink I managed to leave the house in a baby pink leather jacket, raspberry bag and pink lipstick!
GREY DAY! I was in a great nail routine for a couple of weeks as I was visiting Genevieve in town and getting a gorgeous manicure every couple of weeks. This was one of my favourite colours, and the best part was that it was gelish so it lasted weeks without chipping. I need to book an appointment ASAP as my nails do not look this good right now!
Champagne Saturdays! My gorgeous girl Greta treated herself to a beautiful Givenchy bag, and we had to toast it with a glass (or 10) of bubbly. We spent an afternoon/evening in Drury Buildings which is a fabulous spot for food and drinks.
YES I AM A CRAZY CAT LADY! Smokey is with us two years now and he is the absolute boss of the house. If you are thinking of getting an animal than I 100% recommend visit the DSPCA. Smoky was supposed to just be a foster pet and the plan was to give him back once they found a new home for him… yeah as soon as we saw his little face we knew we were keeping him forever.
Hmm… fresh fruit or chocolate?! I cannot skip to healthy options when there are crushed Oreos and marshmallows around. This fantastic spread was offered to us at the River Island Autumn Press day, you can see the collection here.
CHEERS! We celebrated my mum’s birthday in style with champagne and a sit down dinner. Mum wanted to keep things low-key so she invited some of her friends and family over for a night in. My sisters and I were in charge of everything running smoothly but we decided to get Camile to cater as we would have fecked up trying to cook for that many people. The food was amazing, the drinks were flowing and it turned into a late one.
The problem with birthday month in our house is that there is chocolate everywhere you look, and obviously I had to eat it. Maybe I’ll get a Summer body for 2017.
I finally got around to doing another Favourites post and I had to give a shout out to my ride or die nude lipsticks! You can see all the beauty products I am loving (and loathing) in the post here.
I AM VERY BUSY! I trick myself into thinking I am organised by buying pretty diaries, like this one from My Shining Armour.
I think this could have been my last Summer with my leopard espadrilles. They have done me well, but I think it is time to find a replacement pair. They just make me so happy when I look down.
Every day I flip between wanting a super short and chic bob, and also wanting to grow my hair out for long gorgeous curls… for now I will just stay in this hair limbo.
When Great British Bake Off comes back on our screens, you have got to be prepared! This is actually one of my favourite shows and I watch it with my mum and sisters each week. We all back a baker to win and this year I have Selassie this year so fingers crossed I win again (I did have Nadyia last year so I am currently champion!)
There it is again, you can’t keep me out of this embroidered Zara dress! I celebrated my birthday with a prosecco brunch, followed by wine and this dress looked great worn casually with ankle boots and a biker jacket. See more here.
I was totally spoiled for my birthday this year but Greta and I both share a deep appreciation for Laduree so I couldn’t resist snapping this pretty box. They were quickly devoured after this snap was taken.
My birthday day was spent prepping and packing for ELECTRIC PICNIC! I got to attend for the third year in a row and I considering buying next years ticket now… think I might just have to!
I had to pack my Hunter boots, and thank goodness I did after the rain we got over the weekend. I know they are a bit of an investment BUT they are totally worth it!
And that is that! August was pretty packed and really fun, but September so far has been even crazier. As mentioned I attended Electric Picnic, that was followed by the Dublin Fashion Festival and the rest of my month is actually filling up with fun and exciting occasions. Keep up to date on my goings on over on Instagram- click here!
