The weather totally turned on Friday, and we went from having a mild and enjoyable season, to full on freezing cold Winter. Over the next couple of months I will be living in a handful of coats and jackets which I have accumulated over the years, and I consider essentials for a cosy and stylish Winter.
A great-coat or jacket is the easiest way to feel sophisticated and put together, even if you have your comfiest and cosiest clothes underneath. If you are brave enough, bolder colours make an even bigger statement! My mum has the most amazing blood orange coat and it makes her stand out immediately when she walks into a room, it is really fabulous and she can keep everything else really simple and let the coat do all the talking.
My personal essentials for winter are: A faux fur jacket, a tailored coat, an all-weather jacket and a chic biker. Check out all of the jackets and coats below, and shop my favourites, which are all really affordable too!
The Faux Fur: I adore an oversized faux fur jacket, it is such an easy way to make a statement in the Winter months. I rarely get to show off what I have going on underneath, as it is so bloody freezing in Ireland all Winter long, so I like to make a furry statement at first glance. Although a faux fur jacket is usually added glamour over a LBD, you can also pop it on over a pair of jeans and ankle boots to dress up your everyday outfits. You can see my favourite faux fur jacket here and shop my favourites here.
The Grown Up Coat: My next Winter coat essential is a classic cool/ tailored coat. Last Winter I treated myself to a full length camel coat from Missguided, and I always feel so sophisticated and grown up when I slip it on. It is one of those pieces that I can wear to work or on a night out, and it always looks good. The bonus factor is just how cosy it is, while everyone else is freezing on a Saturday night in a little jacket and mini dress, I feel as though I am wearing a gorgeous dressing gown! This versatile piece is another great investment, and an opportunity to make a statement in the colder months. I would love to invest in another coat in a bolder colour this season, such as the burgundy piece below. Shop all of the favourite wool and tailored coats here.
The All-Weather jacket: I am actually on the hunt for a new one of these jackets myself, this is the jacket you pull out when there is rain or snow or just freezing cold weather. My checklist for a jacket like this is for it to be really warm, ideally have a fleece lining for extra warmth and a really big hood to keep me dry on rainy days. It may not be the most glamorous jacket, but you will be thankful to have something like this in your wardrobe on days when its lashing rain and the wind is so strong that an umbrella is useless. If you did want to go glam with these jackets and look for a ski inspired jacket which usually features a waist belt and cosy faux fur trims. Shop my favourite styles here.
The biker jacket: I have a weakness for Biker jackets, and have a small selection where some are light and perfect for Spring and Summer, and others are nice and heavy for Winter. This is my go to style for all occasions, I love to wear my biker jacket with a pair of skinny jeans for a cool casual look, or to throw on over a dress to toughen up the look. At this time of year you can usually find gorgeous winter biker jackets donning faux fur or shearling lapels, however you can also buy these collars separately to completely update the jackets already in your closet. If you are on the hunt for a new biker jacket take a look at my favourite picks here.
Throughout Winter you will get a lot of wear out of these coat styles, especially if you live in a colder climate like me in Ireland. I could honestly spend my annual salary on stunning coats, but I think these four styles cover the basics, and offer good variety and options throughout the colder months.
I have added another shoppable edit below of gorgeous Winter accessories which can update your look this winter, even if you are not looking for a new coat or jacket. You can probably tell I have a thing for faux fur and luxurious looking fabrics. Shop the edit here.
Although Winter can be tough with the severe weather, but one silver lining can be investing in a new jacket (or two), and stay stylish and cosy, even if you are wearing sloppy clothes underneath, nobody needs to know! If you think I left something off the list, please let me know in the comments below!
Until next time,
