For years the beauty industry has been using Avocados in hair and skin products as it is packed with healthy fats, vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants. Last week I needed to do something with my dry and frizzy prone hair after a couple of weeks of mistreating it, and I was happy to find an avocado left over from dinner the night before. I carried out a quick search online of ingredients I could mix with the avocado to make a hair treatment mask. One of the most popular ingredients was egg, but I have read horror stories of egg cooking in the hair when rinsing with warm or hot water so I have never actually put egg in my hair out of pure fear. The other very popular ingredient is olive oil, however, I had a small bottle of Argan oil that I had not been using. I decided to also include the remaining conditioner from colouring my hair and a small amount of milk.
I decided to use my blender, but all of the ingredients are so soft that I could have easily mixed and mashed by hand in a bowl.
- 1 avocado
- 1 tbsp of Argan Oil (any oil will do but I found mine in Dealz for €1.49)
- 1 tbsp of Conditioner
- 2 tbsp of Milk
As I mixed the ingredients together I slowly added milk until I reached the right consistency. I don’t know the exact amount, but I could not have used more than 2 tbsp.
Once I was happy with the texture, which was mousse like, I slathered it all over my hair and allowed it to sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing out and continuing my hair routine as usual.
My hair felt totally nourished afterwards, it was really soft and shiny and easy to manage. My frizzy ends are under control, so this is an easy DIY for me to keep up once a week or so. I also think this will be a great mask for me to use over the summer, especially on holidays when my scalp can get burned and my hair goes very dry.
The last DIY hair mask I shared was really nourishing to my hair, however rinsing it out was a little high maintenance due to the sticky honey.
