Work it out | What to wear to the Gym

I have only been committing to the gym since February, after a LONG break! I managed to allow myself to get really out of shape and gain a little weight earlier this year, so I am now making my way to the gym 3-4 times a week and trying to eat healthy, while still allowing myself to live life.

I am currently trying to adjust my attitude towards the gym, as I usually see it as something I HAVE to do, rather than something I CAN do or enjoy. I view it as a chore, and have been wearing an all black uniform to the gym which pretty much reflects my attitude.
It might sound silly, but clothes can always help me adjust my mood and view-point. Just like dressing for a work can put you in a productive mind frame, some colourful clothes can adjust my mood when working out, making it a little more enjoyable and fun.

Don’t get me wrong, I will still have my all black days, but adding a little colour here and there might help change my mood on my walk to the gym.

I have browsed around and gathered a couple of my favorite pieces that I would love to add to my workout wardrobe. Active-wear has made its way to high street stores now, no longer exclusive for sports specialists, which means fashion has crossed over with function.

A mix of neon, bright, grey and black. Usually when I am working out in the gym I get too warm for long sleeve tops, but they are so handy when going for walks/ hikes/ outdoor activities.

I personally like to go high impact sports bra, which usually cost a little more but I think are totally worth it as I get really distracted if my boobs arent totally secure during my workout. While working out it is completely acceptable to have your sports bra visible, and for some, for it to be the only top they wear. Again I have stuck with blacks until recently when I purchased an orange bra and now I am loving a peek of colour coming through.

When shopping for workout bottoms I have two main concerns: they don’t go sheer when squatting/ bending/ lifting etc. and they don’t ride up and cling in the wrong areas. Other than that, pretty much anything goes. I have yet to head to they gym in a pair of shorts but Summer is arriving so it could be coming, especially in those cute pairs!

I am not even going to try to disguise my bias, I love Nike runners! I am currently wearing Nike Pegasus zoom in black and white, but they can be seen above in light blue, red and purple. Choosing the right shoe is really important, as the wrong shoe could cause an injury.

Last but not least, the Gym bag! Coming and going from the gym, I am likely to be carrying a hold all bag or a black leather backpack. I don’t really like traditional gym bags, in the sense that you wouldn’t realise I was heading to the gym based on the bag I was carrying.

I could spend days shopping for the gym, everything from water bottles and towels are making their way into high street stores.
