Electric Picnic 2014

I have been going on for WEEKS about heading off to Electric Picnic, and finally Friday the 29th of August arrived and I headed off to Laois for a weekend of camping, music and booze.

So much happened in one little weekend, so it may be a little difficult to break it all down, but I will start from the start and see how I go!

First thing first: Friday morning I had to shower and do my hair and cover myself in some sparkly gold and silver tattoos… as you do πŸ˜‰ I bought these from Missguided and I thought they were a really cool touch for the weekend. (shop here)Β . They were actually very easy to use; cut out the design you want, peel off the clear plastic sheet, place the tattoo on the skin, dampen the back of it, wait 30 seconds and slowly peel off. TADAH!

Dressed and ready to go, you can see the details of exactly what I wore here.Β

We arrived in Stradbally at about 2 in the afternoon, and people had been arriving since 9am, so the ground was already pretty muddy! The situation wasn’t helped with the fact that it had been raining on and off all day, thank goodness for my Hunter boots πŸ™‚

I was lucky enough that my friend Sean had invested in a 2 bedroom tent that sleeps 4 and was letting me take up one of the rooms for the weekend πŸ™‚ It was a pretty cool tent that had a middle section which we referred to as a ‘foyer’, and the door also worked as patio roof during the rain. The only issue with this tent was that it was A VERY POPULAR style and colour of tent, so in the dark it was very difficult to find our exact one! (Which is why I was nerdy enough to bring a torch, even though everyone laughed at me.)

I did pack a air mat to sleep on and this was a total life saver! I recommend that to anyone who is camping to pick one up in Argos, I think it cost about €20 and was an absolute saviour!

So day one; we were all feeling very accomplished once we had our tents set up so we sat back in our picnic chairs and enjoyed a couple of drinks while the weather sorted itself out, it was raining for the first couple of hours. Once it got dark and our entire group had arrived, we headed into the main arena and watched The Foals and some of the Petshop Boys, had many more beers, and then my memory starts to fade. I know I visited most of the music tents but I cannot remember the names of the exact acts I saw, but I do remember that I had a great time! We also visited the amusement park and some of the stalls and shops.

DAY 2:

Day 2 I know I watched Hozier and Paolo Nutini (where I lost my voice screaming along to the songs), I am not cool enough to know the rest of the acts that we saw! We spent a huge amount of the day in the arena and enjoyed some delicious pizza, a lot of beer, and many many many vodka redbull (It is a music festival, I don’t usually drink a huge amount on a usual night out, but this is not a usual night out).

I borrow a tweedledee hat from one of the guys, and of course was living in my wellies, because any other shoe was just not practical.

I think that is Paolo Nutini, but obviously it is next to impossible to tell! ha

These pictures are not great, but this was the rave in the woods that took place every night, I think it was the red bull area, but don’t hold me to that. It was really cool, not my personal taste in music, but I loved being in the woods and people watching. The lights were also really pretty.

DAY 3: MY BIRTHDAY!

This day was awesome! So I woke up early and headed into the arena to get cash from the ATM as I was running low. On my way I bumped into two friends who treated me to a coffee and a nutella crepe, perfect start to the day. Unfortunately the ATM was not Β open yet so I headed back to the tent.

Totally obsessed with my leopard print face paint, my sisters friend Clarissa is so talented, and usually had a line of people waiting to have her paint their face. My friend Tobo decided to have the Mike Tyson tattoo painted on the side of his face.

In between the acts I wanted to see (Lily Allen being one of my favourites from this day) I was treated to a trip to Saba for crispy chicken (SOOO GOOD!) and Mojitos at the Bacardi bar. I was really spoiled on for my birthday by all of my friends, I was so happy to be there with such a great group of people.

I was treated to a delicious stop at the prosecco bar by the guys I was with. After a weekend of drinking beer this was very much needed and appreciated.

Our version of the oscar selfie….

This was my first time going to Electric Picnic and I am hooked! I had such a great time, but a lot of that had to do with the really fun group I was with!

Who else was at Picnic?

Thanks for reading,Β
