Unlike most people. my trip to New York this year was NOT a shopping trip. My best friend has been living there since October and I really just wanted to visit and see her life there. I bought myself very little and spent almost all of my cash on food and drinks (totally worth it). I did decided to treat myself to two products in Sephora, a new foundation and my favourite mascara in the world.
I have mentioned this foundation a couple of times recently, but I just haven’t had a chance to actually do a little post about. I picked this foundation up in Sephora in New York, in shade 4.0 and have been using it since my trip to NYC. There are 18 shades so I can easily find lighter or darker shades depending on the time of year and my needs.
What I like most about it, it really is like your skin is naked! As an Irish girl, with pale and freckly skin, I am used to piling on the coverage but in the Summer it is just not practical (unless you want to look like you are melting).
While I was in New York, the Sun was out and the temperatures were high, and I felt as though I had nothing on my skin. I didn’t go shiny and I really felt like my skin could breath. Usually if I am wearing make up in the sun, I get stressed about looking like a monster, with make up melting off my face, but this foundation is amazing, it really feels Naked! I have been back in Dublin for almost 2 months and still wearing this foundation day and night and I totally converted.
The coverage is good, and natural looking, but for nights out I build up the coverage a little more (old habits die-hard).
Basically I am hooked, it is light and breathable while still offering great coverage.
I have been using this mascara for about 6 years now, beginning with faux cils and now using the SHOCKING formula. In the last year I have become a little more practical and use a Maybelline mascara for everyday use, and wear the YSL mascara on nights out.
I have tried hundreds of mascaras over the years and I always come back to YSL, but at €30 a tube, it is a bit of an investment. While wearing this mascara I am regularly asked if I am wearing false lashes, or if I have mink extensions. This formula is just awesome! The only complaint I have heard is that it dries quickly, but I think you just have to be careful when closing it and making sure you hear the click of the top lock into place.
This mascara will cost €31 at Boots.
Have you tried either of these products? What are your beauty essentials?
